Northern Counties Solo and Ensemble Contest
3rd February 2024

Clackmannan District Brass took a contingent of players to the Northern Counties Solo and Ensemble Competition and came away with a clean sweep, winning in three categories.

​

21 and under ensemble - Chloe brown, Katie Hensman, Tom Lamb, James Twist and Lewis Young

Their program consisted of:  When she loved me and Don't Stop me now.

​

16 and under ensemble - Tom Lamb and Lewis Young

Their program consisted of:  the trombone duet - Devils Waltz.

​

Open Slow Melody - Luci Lamb

Luci's program consisted of:  All Hallow's Eve.

The adjudicator's comments were very positive and gave some very excellent feedback to all the players. Other players taking part in the event  were John and Leslie Muir 

​

Second Section - Scottish Brass Band Championships

Coming Up

The Clackmannan District Brass Band are competing in the second section of the Scottish Brass Band Championships. The set piece is Philip Sparke's Tryptych.

After a solid 3rd place last year, the band are hoping to improve on that placing and achieve promotion to the first section, and qualification to represent Scotland at the National Brass Band Championship Finals in Cheltenham in September.

Section 4B - Scottish Brass Band Championships

The Clackmannan District Youth & Development Brass Band are taking part in section 4B of the  Scottish Brass Band Championships. The band will be performing a 15 minute programme of varied music featuring a number of our younger players.

This will be the 4th year that the band have attended the event, and have enjoyed their experience each time. This year there will be number of recently promoted players from the beginner band taking part for the first time.

At our annual awards day in early November we had a solo and ensemble performance and competition section. This event is to recognise players for all sections of the organisation. We also had some long service awards given out on behalf of the Scottish Brass Band Association to Julie Johnston, Lorraine McLeod, Leslie Muir and John Muir.

 

The winners of the open playing competition were Graham Caldwell and Louise Kroegler playing the Flower Duet, with the Presidents award going to Shona Caldwell.

They say that music is the language of the soul, and this is certainly true for Clackmannan District Brass Band. From contesting and live concerts to rehearsals and learning from scratch, Clackmannan District Brass Band is a charitable organisation that touches the whole community locally.

Clackmannan District Brass Band was formed in 1991 from the amalgamation of Alloa Burgh and Alva Town Brass Bands and they strive to continue the long history of brass bands in the Clackmannanshire area by the encouragement and development of new players of any age.

​

Clackmannan District Brass Band aims to promote the advancement of the arts and culture within the community through the practice and performance of music on a communal and amateur basis, the education of members of the band in music techniques and the provision of a community service by the public performance of music. 

​

Clackmannan District Brass Band are a diverse and inclusive organisation, made up of 4 different brass band groups and welcome enquiries from all about becoming a member.:

BBb Bass Player

Are you a BBb bass player looking for a new challenge?

We are looking to fill our vacant BBb bass seat - with immediate effect.

 

We are a friendly, ambitious, hardworking second section band based in Alloa, with our own rehearsal facility.

​

We rehearse every Tuesday & Friday evening 7.30 to 9.30pm and have an exciting and varied list of engagements and contests planned each year.

​

Paul is no stranger to the band, having been part of the band that lifted the First Section Scottish Championship title in 2012 and coming seventh at the National Finals. He also conducted the band at the 2022 Second Section Scottish Championship.

The band stated: "Paul is an excellent musician, established composer and arranger, with a great reputation as a conductor and MD."
In response Paul said: "I'm thrilled and excited to be working with Clackmannan for the Scottish Championships. The band is an enthusiastic and very talented group and I'm already enjoying the challenges of the test piece. I'm thrilled and excited to be working with Clackmannan for the Scottish Championships. Crowds always love seeing the Beginner  Band in full performance mode, and Clackmannan District Brass Band couldn’t be happier to have such an enthusiastic group of learners. This is where all the musicians begin their journey.
